About

At The Orchard, we provide support for six people with complex mental health needs or dual diagnoses involving mental health and challenging behaviours linked to learning disabilities. We assist individuals in developing their own strategies and skills to achieve as much independence as possible.

Our focus is on helping people work towards their personal goals — however big or small — supporting the growth of confidence and self-esteem. Recognising that every person is unique, we adapt our support to meet individual needs. With the right environment and care, we believe our service empowers people to gain greater independence and take control of their lives.

Our Approach

Our approach centres on empowering the people we support by building trust and prioritising skills development and re-enablement. We work collaboratively with individuals to help them shape their futures and increase personal empowerment.

We encourage access to training, volunteering, education, and, where possible, employment opportunities. Everyone is supported to engage with their local community, practise new skills, and rediscover abilities that may have been lost. Our approach includes access to college courses, travel training, and leisure activities.

Positive Outcomes

We have successfully supported individuals with complex, long-term rehabilitation needs, including those with Personality Disorder (PD). Our focus is always on the person, not the behaviour. We believe that with the right support, the impact of PD on individuals and their families can be lessened.

Our aim is to improve social awareness skills, further developed through community involvement. We promote wellbeing and maximise independence by helping people develop coping techniques to manage emotions and behaviours in a safe, supportive environment.

In 2018, we successfully supported two people to return home after receiving respite care at The Orchard.

Accommodation

The Orchard features five en-suite bedrooms and one self-contained studio apartment. The home combines a traditional house with a modern extension, designed around a pleasant courtyard and garden.

Communal spaces include a large kitchen with a conservatory, a lounge, and a dining area. Ground floor accommodation allows access for individuals with physical disabilities. The studio apartment is located at the front of the home with ground floor access.

There is off-road parking with wheelchair access at the front, and the garden to the rear is split-level, including a large decked area with wheelchair-friendly access.
