About

At The Lighthouse, we support nine people with Mental Health needs, including those who may have a dual diagnosis. We work with people of varied abilities to help them reach their full potential by developing skills, strengths, and resilience. We empower individuals to build their own resources to self-manage and maintain wellness. Our support focuses on helping people develop coping techniques that can make a real difference in their daily lives. We recognise that everyone is unique, and no matter the complexity of their needs, we encourage, support, and motivate each person to achieve their optimum level of independence.

We work alongside individuals to help them build their futures and increase personal empowerment. We support access to training, volunteering, education, and, where possible, employment opportunities. Everyone is encouraged to engage with their local community, develop new skills, and reconnect with skills they may have lost.

Our Approach

We understand that everyone is different, so we tailor our support to meet each person’s unique needs. We provide an environment that promotes mental and physical well-being. Our aim is to help people maintain their identity while rebuilding self-confidence and developing the ability to manage their mental health and prevent relapse. With the right support, we believe individuals can gain greater independence and more control over their lives.

We actively promote wellbeing and encourage everyone to be as independent as possible. We empower people to develop their own coping strategies to manage emotions and behaviour, all within a safe, homely, and supportive environment.

By seeing the world through each person’s eyes, we truly understand their goals and aspirations. We support people to take appropriate risks and find innovative ways to safely achieve their dreams.

Positive Outcomes

We have a strong track record of supporting individuals with complex, long-term rehabilitation needs, helping them transition to more independent living arrangements. Since 2017, we have supported five people with complex needs to move back into the community.

Our focus is on improving social awareness skills, which are further developed through community access. Our approach offers opportunities to attend college, participate in travel training, and enjoy leisure activities. Currently, two people we support are engaged in voluntary work—one volunteers weekly with a conservation group and at the local food bank on weekends, while the other helps out at the local church.

Testimonial

"The welcome to Seb from your team at The Lighthouse was above and beyond any expectations. Your whole team embraced Seb’s parents’ willingness and passion to be involved in the move and made me feel very welcome too.

It has visibly been a very difficult, challenging, and emotional week for Seb and his parents, and the support, reassurance, and positive attitude of all the team has just been fantastic!"

— Social Worker, Somerset County Council

Progressive Pathway

Our studio apartments provide a clear progression pathway within a residential support setting, designed to promote self-development and personal growth regardless of complex health and social care needs. The transitional apartments offer private spaces for staff to deliver skill development and coaching sessions. Residents can trial independence in a setting with 24-hour staffing available to support the development of life skills.

We believe that these semi-independent transition apartments enable people to take their first steps towards greater independence within a safe, risk-managed environment.
