Manor Lodge offers tailored support at varying levels to meet the assessed needs of each individual. Our service is specifically designed to accommodate the complex needs of people with Acquired Brain Injuries, Learning Disabilities, and Mental Health needs.
We provide a welcoming, homely environment where individuals can recover and develop skills to enhance their quality of life. Our personalised support helps people build coping techniques that create meaningful improvements in their daily lives.
At Manor Lodge, we prioritise person-centred care that fosters independence while meeting each individual’s unique needs. Through our outcomes-focused approach, we empower people to maintain choice and control over their own lives.
Inclusion at Manor Lodge
We take part in the inclusion calendar and will celebrate different holidays, national days and have fun and do activities. We have an inclusion scrapbook where we put our pictures of all the fun things we do together.
Headway
One of our gentlemen takes part in Headway sessions once a week – this is a gentleman with very complex needs and behaviours with an ABI, Korsakoff’s and Epilepsy.
This gentleman used to be quite anxious in large crowds or noisy places and would display behaviours around people he didn’t know. But since he has been going to Headway he has progressed so well and is interacting with the volunteers and taking part in the activities. We are very proud of him!
Pets as Therapy
Accomplish are sponsors of Pets as Therapy and we have our own house cat called Alfie! The people we support love him and will spoil him with snacks, cuddles and brushing him.

Alfie loves to take part in activities – staff will dress him up and get him involved! He will spend time in the office helping us with paperwork (laying all over it and begging to be petted). We enter Alfie into competitions during the year (We have a Halloween competition coming up!) and he has been the face of Manor Lodge when advertising jobs.

Reducing Restrictions
We try our best at Manor Lodge to be as least restrictive as possible. We will always look to try new things to support our residents to be as independent as possible, but to also maintain their safety.
· Locked kitchen – Back in 2019 we had a locked kitchen due to behaviours with a person we support, but after some time, we were able to re-open it so it was fully accessible to everyone.
· Sharpes drawer – Our drawer with sharp knives and scissors was previously locked (this was due to historical risks), but as of 2025 we made the decision to unlock it, so people we support who were more able had more independence and could access them without asking staff.
· A person we support and their cigarettes – We trailed this person having more independence around their cigarettes, and although this did not work for them, and we reverted to the way we were supporting them previously, we still did what we could to try and reduce the restriction.
· Two people we support have their own keys to their bedrooms
· One person we support has a key to the main gate and he accesses the community independently.
· A person we support had many restrictions when she first came to us in 2019 from another home within the company. We managed to reduce nearly all her restrictions over time at Manor Lodge – these included restrictions around her cigarettes, caffeine, being able to access the community and removing her 1:1 so she could have her independence.
Supporting End of Life
A person we support was unfortunately diagnosed with cancer back in 2024. It was always his goal to be able to go back home with his mother to live with her.
This was never possible previously due to behaviours and other concerns. However, due to his terminal diagnosis, we had a best interest meeting, and we agreed that he would go home and spend his final couple of months with his mother.
This was a very emotional time for all involved, we had been supporting this very complex gentleman since 2013 but we were so happy we could do this for him. Although he was no longer in our care, we visited him every week, sometimes more than once. Staff would go and see him on their days off and take him out to the local café/shops where he lived. His mother had learning disabilities and needed support with buying him clothing, bedding and generally keeping on top of things in the house, so staff helped in any way they could when they visited.
We visited him up until the day he passed away. Staff were the ones who found him when he had passed away in bed peacefully one afternoon and they acted so professionally and calmly and dealt with it appropriately and also provided such care and empathy to his mother. We miss this gentleman immensely, and I am so proud of all the work, love and care everyone give to him.
The Manager
Danielle Powell is the Registered Manager and has been with the company for 12 years, having been a support worker in 3 of our 4 Newport homes, progressing to acting manager at Manor Lodge before taking on the role in October 2019.
Danielle has Level 3, 4 and 5 in Health and Social care and is a hands-on manager, getting involved with the staff team and spending time with the people we support.
The Team
Danielle works with a fantastic staff team, from all walks of life and a variety of experiences and qualifications and believes in supporting them to develop and learn new things. She is very proud of the hard work they put in, not only for the people we support, but for themselves too. Outcomes are important to Danielle, who loves to watch people learn and grow as individuals and as a team, sharing the same passion - providing the best care possible and helping residents achieve their goals.
The service believes in making the best of everyday, laughing and having fun together and Danielle feels she couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with, and that it's a pleasure. This was evidenced in the CIW report 03/11/2023, with the Inspector commenting "The rapport between people and their care staff is warm, friendly, and respectful. We saw people enjoying each other’s company, laughing, and joking together”.
